West Virginia pest control CEU requirements
How many CEUs does West Virginia require for pest control licence renewal?
It depends which licence you hold — West Virginia sets a different obligation for each tier, and they are not even measured the same way. Commercial Applicator and Certified Public Applicator owe 20 credits (ccus) — 10 hours — every three years; Registered Technician owe 4 credits (2 hours) each year before renewal. There is no single pooled number, which is the most common reason somebody arrives at renewal short.

- Exam structure
- General Standards (Core) exam plus category exams, set by WVDA at six sites (Charleston, Parkersburg, Beckley, Morgantown, Inwood, Teays Valley), each testing once a month. 50 multiple-choice questions, one hour each, closed book (the LPAB business exam is the exception). 70 percent to pass. $20 exam fee per session covers all exams in it. Retake waits: 28 days after a first fail, 56 days after a second. Results valid 12 months. For-hire (LPAB) applicants need one year of verifiable application experience or a related degree before testing; RPAB in-house staff do not.
What each licence tier owes
| Licence tier | Requirement | Detail that catches people out |
|---|---|---|
| Commercial Applicator and Certified Public Applicator | 20 credits (CCUs) — 10 hours — every three years | WV credits are HALF-hour units: one credit per 30 minutes of approved training. Comparing with a state that counts hours, 20 WV credits is only 10 hours. Programs are approved category by category. |
| Registered Technician | 4 credits (2 hours) each year before renewal | Must complete a WVDA-approved Registered Technician Training Program within 30 days of hire. Missing CCUs by the category expiration date means taking the Registered Technician exam ($20). |
