Idaho pest control CEU requirements
How many CEUs does Idaho require for pest control licence renewal?
It depends which licence you hold — Idaho sets a different obligation for each tier, and they are not even measured the same way. Professional Applicator owe 40 recertification credits per five-year licensing period, or retest; Commercial Apprentice owe none — the licence is non-renewable; Private Applicator owe 15 recertification credits per five-year period. There is no single pooled number, which is the most common reason somebody arrives at renewal short.
Key factIssuing agency: Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) — Agricultural Resources Division, Pesticide Applicator Licensing & Certification
- Requirement
- Set per licence tier — see the table below
- Cycle length
- 60 months
- Deadline
- The five-year period begins on the 1 January after the licence is first obtained and ends on 31 December of the fifth year. Credits must be in before expiry: a licence holder short of credits at expiration must retake and pass the exams before renewing. The licence itself may be renewed up to 12 months after its expiration date.
- Accepted formats
- ISDA-accredited in-person seminars, ISDA-approved online recertification modules, Recertification by examination (CO plus each category held)
- Agency
- Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA) — Agricultural Resources Division, Pesticide Applicator Licensing & Certification
- Application fee
- $300
- Exam structure
- Professional applicators must pass the Applicator Core Competency (CO) exam plus at least one category exam, each with a minimum score of 70%. Exams are proctored by ISDA staff or an authorized agent; a failed exam may be retaken after a one-day wait, and scores stay valid for 12 months. Examination fee is $10 per exam category. A Commercial Apprentice licence (CO exam only, 70%) allows general-use applications under limited supervision of a professional applicator — not AA, AU, NS or SF work — expires two years from issue and cannot be renewed.
What each licence tier owes
| Licence tier | Requirement | Detail that catches people out |
|---|---|---|
| Professional Applicator | 40 recertification credits per five-year licensing period, or retest | One credit per 50 minutes of instruction at Department-accredited seminars. The current rule sets no core/category split — the 40 is pooled. Excess credits may not be carried into the next period. Recertification by exam means passing CO plus every category you intend to hold, and can be done up to 12 months before the period ends. |
| Commercial Apprentice | None — the licence is non-renewable | Expires two years from issue. $120. No more than two apprentices per supervising applicator. |
| Private Applicator | 15 recertification credits per five-year period | Private period runs to 31 March of the fifth year, not 31 December. |
