ID notes from the crew

  • Sawtoothed vs. merchant grain beetle2025–26

Told apart by temple length. Sawtoothed doesn’t fly or come to light and lives up to a year; merchant flies, is drawn to light and prefers cereals.

  • Cigarette vs. drugstore beetle2025–26

Cigarette beetle antennae are serrated; drugstore beetle antennae are clubbed. Don’t trust stock-photo IDs — even an industry body once ran a mislabelled one.
